As the Veterans Advocate and Consultant collaborating alongside Deputy District Attorney Angie Christides on the Long Beach Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) for almost 3 years, I enthusiastically endorse the candidacy of Angie for Judge of the Superior Court. I credit her with the success of Veterans Treatment Court because of her sharp intellect and extensive legal knowledge. I personally saw her ability to treat Veterans, their family members, mental health practitioners and the opposing attorneys with utmost fairness and respect. Angie showed acumen to all the above-mentioned responsibilities. This writer managed to give VTC comprehensive and detailed clinical reports with accompanying treatment records in which supported release for Veterans Mental Health Diversion. After giving my reports, Angie displayed superior knowledge of the law and integrity when assessing them for confirming whether the Veteran had a qualifying mental health diagnosis; for example, combat related or military operational stress-related PTSD, which played a contributing factor in the offense. She proved a sharp mind for evaluating if the Veteran posed a risk to public safety when reviewing my recommendations for the Veteran’s release to inpatient or outpatient mental health or substance abuse treatment programs. Third, she showed an elevated level of discernment when reviewing my given clinical treatment records from the Veteran’s mental health providers to ensure the proposed treatment plan was proper in relation to the mental health diagnosis. Angie has outstanding legal ability and knowledge of the law. She is always searching for knowledge and current information about the law which positively affects her profession. These workshops added more ability to her already comprehensive knowledge of the law, which she applied to Veterans Treatment Court. She is a global humanitarian and dedicated to community service. I have had conversations with her in which she shared her providing free surfing lessons to young women in Central America and academic scholarships for them to have access to opportunities for higher education. She is also a Certified Yoga Instructor and has invited me to attend yoga lessons for free, at the beach or in studios.
